IRIS RHINESTONES NECKLACE

The simple style of this NECKLACE is made stunning with the use of red-blue-green stripes in the rhinestones.  Note that two of the large ones are set vertically and the center one is set horizontally, giving even more eye interest.   Vintage costume jewelry, circa 1940s, very good condition.   The chain, probably originally silver plated is a comfortable brassy color, reflecting it's age.   Length is 16 inches.

ART DECO WINGED SCARAB, 14K, ENAMEL, MOONSTONE

A ton of meaning and beauty is tucked into this little Art Deco pin.  The body is hand carved, natural moonstone.  The wings are highly detailed as you will note with the enlargement.  The pin itself, 1 1/8 inch,  tests 14K, with a simple C clasp.  The scarab is the symbol of Ra, the Sun God of the Egyptians. In his scarab aspect, Ra was called Khepera. Scarab beetles lay their eggs in dung, which they roll into a ball and roll into a hole. The Egyptians equated this with the movement of the sun and its daily resurrection. The opening and closing of the scarab's colorful wings symbolized night and day.  The scarab is meant to bring good luck and protection through life.

SWEET STERLING NECKLACE

So adorable it need little description.  Originally gold plated on sterling, most of the plating has gone, leaving it looking "antique", which it is.  The leaflets are set with tiny rhinestones.  The sapphire-blue glass stones are unfoiled.  The front is approximately 3 inches across, and it is suspended from a sterling chain (just replaced for safety).  Sixteen inches total length.  Vintage costume jewelry in very good condition, one leaflet is missing from the bottom, center front.  Thought to be circa 1910.

STRAIGHT FROM YOUR SCOTTISH G-G-MOTHER'S JEWEL CASK  ~ BARGAIN BAZAAR

Dating to between 1850-1880, the segments are polished natural stone of various agate varieties.  Really  old, the segments are mounted on a black material that looks very much like slate (see picture of the reverse) that is hand cut,  and the edges of the segments are covered on the front with hand chased sterling silver.  The pieces are still totally secure but you will see a small section of the inner circle of silver is missing.  Closure is a simple C clasp, the BROOCH is 1 3/4 inches.  Antique estate jewelry, looking for another hundred years with a nice  family.  A similar one is listed in Warmans 2nd Edition, p. 29 at $525 and dated 1860-70.

AMBER, BRASS AND GLASS, ARTS AND CRAFTS NECKLACE

The natural (guaranteed) amber beads have been hand cut in this old necklace.   Not polished, they are lightly grooved from the cutting technique.  The orange beads are glass and the others are brass with impressed design.  The centerpiece features a cluster of orange fruit and two leaves on filigree .. note the interesting design on the reverse.  About twenty inches long.  The original clasp has been replaced with a simple, easy to fasten design, so the metal does not match the beads.  Vintage costume jewelry in very good condition.

FROSTED AND FILIGREE BROOCH

The "old gold" plated filigree frame is a single flat piece with the addition of rounded sections, giving the impression of an undulating frame.  Flat back clear rhinestones are set between the raised sections.  A large filigree floret centers the frosted oval.   It looks like a circa 1930s brooch and has a simple C-clasp however the large size  2 5/8 inch wide and the flat back stones may put it at a much later date.  Vintage costume jewelry in excellent condition.

UNUSUAL SHELL CAMEO PENDANT NECKLACE

Handcarved in layered shell, the figural style indicates it is probably circa 1920s.  The Gold Filled frame is unusual and gives the piece a gentle importance.  The pendant, including bail, measures 2 inches and is suspended from a 19 inch gold filled chain.  Very nice piece will last many more years.  Vintage costume jewelry in excellent condition.

VICTORIAN  BIRD BROOCH, 14K YELLOW GOLD

Hand made brooch features three colors of karat gold, much of it textured "diamond cut".  The flowers, leaves, seashell & bird are individually made and mounted on an open framework.  Set with tiny turquoise cabachons and three perhaps natural or perhaps cultured baroque pearls.  The bird is usually silver and in this case appears to be silver with a partial gold wash.  Sparklz can't find the reference she used when she had a pair of earrings like this brooch, but the recollection is that this is traditional "Jewelry of the People" made in a remote Mexican village and has been made for generations in exactly the same way, so it is difficult to actually date.  The clasp is a curlique c-style, which would indicate that this  probably dates to the first third of the 1900s.  Further research may elicit more information.  Sparklz is looking through her library for the original information.  In the meantime apparently similar pieces can be seen in David & Pack "Mexican Jewelry".  The dangles hang correctly, they just look askew as the picture was made on a scanner.  In excellent condition, except for a missing floret near the bird's beak.  Antique estate jewelry, the BROOCH is about 2 3/4 inches.   Estimated replacement value $2200-$3500.

GARNET COLOR PENDANT NECKLACE, CIRCA 1920

A real beauty, the pendant is plated in rich "Russian" gold tone and bezel set with six faceted faux, simulated garnets, with three faceted beads dangling below.  The fancy 18 inch neck chain is a succession of elongated, faceted beads and round faceted beads.  Many of the end caps on the beads have lost a portion of their plating and are showing the underlying base metal as is the wire work.  One line in the filigree, just the edge at the 5:00 position appears to be a break but is actually an incompletion in the original stamping.  Vintage costume jewelry, Circa approx. 1920, still  very desirable.

EXQUISITE YESTERYEAR'S RING,  14K

Amethyst filigree ring, 14K white gold,  circa 1920-30.  The amethyst gemstone is emerald cut and  measures about 15 mm X 12 mm with an estimated weight of  9 carats.  It is set in frame  and the top edge has been mil grained by hand and there is an applied tiny rope twist along the side wall.  Around that is perfectly matched, tiny, tiny pearls (may be cultured or natural), interrupted only by a station on each side.  The stations are  yellow gold and contain a central floret and leaves. The filigree is in excellent condition, as are the pearls and the amethyst.
 Estimates retail replacement value $900-$1000

INTRICATE VICTORIAN BRACELET

Hinged, bangle bracelet with ornate fluted areas, and flowers.  The design is applied on top of the basic 5/8 inch wide, textured bangle and is 1 5/8 inches wide at the center.   Gold plated brass, probably circa 1900-1930, in very good condition.  Slightly oval in shape, it measures 2 1/2 inches across and will fit an average wrist.
